Title: Successful transplantation
Post by: DocCharly65 on November 02, 2018, 05:02:39 AM
It was just an idea... and then...
I hereby announce that the first transplanting of a head succeeded successfully. ;)

I wanted to test what happens if I import my Cmd. Adama Head in his helmet to a 3DRT Marine-Animation and re-parent the armature to the new head.

Completely new possibilities now - Before Adamas Viper is transported from the Galactica Hangar to the launch tube:
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqhzaIUNCMDt7wtTgA (https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqhzaIUNCMDt7wtTgA)

That allows an extended scene when Adma arrives on the Enterprise. We will see the start of his Viper too.
Here is the closing of his cockpit (I must rerender because I forgot to activate the reflective shader of the helmet :(  )
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqhyAtAfIencSCYNsQ (https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqhyAtAfIencSCYNsQ)

And this is the concept of Adamas Viper-start in the Galactica launch tube.
I used a midi file from freemidi.org ;) Just for fun... Later I will work on the music to create a combination of Jan Hammers "Crocketts Theme" and the Galactica march.
The launch tube is a construction of many many  scify tunnels from turbosquid.
Very raw but I hope you'll see my intentions:

Testrenders from inside of the tube:

a testrender from the flyby scene:

Writing the GI cache was a special challenge. I had to deactivate all selfilluminating parts of the launch tube because I got very strange illumination. There are still some tests but I think it works now.

Because of the 120 light sources I have quite long rendertimes (by my standards) of approx 2h. But it is less than before. I deactivated lighting, shadows and glowing of atmosphere as well as specular highlights of all light sources so I could reduce rendertime almost 30-40%.

What can I say; it's just awesome again! Especially nr. 2 is so realistic....

Love that Viper 2 cockpit closing scene. Looks fantastic. That tube is also really well done in the still (love the signs).

Gotta throw a shot-out to the (Alantis?) Stargate.

Good eyes ;)

In fact it's just the preparation for a plot twist and joke towards the end of the movie  8)

I had to do some difficult decisions this evening but the patience and a minimum of perfectionism won.

I looked the Adama-RAW-preview where he is looking on the watch and thought "Who and why is he waving?"

The solution: An airport car to carry his Viper to the launch tube.
Unfortunately another week of rendering for the trash-bin: This is a hangar overview where he is only standing there doing nothing:
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqh1arUDHPJfkYFA2w (https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqh1arUDHPJfkYFA2w)

I used the time that I anyway wanted to invest now to "repair" the weird normals of the trash boxes on the left side and retextured the fork-lift truck. I added the airport car (from archive3D) and I refined it with some flashing lights: A combination of high self-illumination and "real light sources for distinctive starbursts and reflections on the surfaces. Additionally I let the nozzles of the incoming viper go out earlier. That should look better.

Also I gave Cdr. Adama a more plausible movement: He walks back while the car is approaching:
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqh2aHvdUw6j9PworQ (https://1drv.ms/v/s!AvEpmvBUHi6qgqh2aHvdUw6j9PworQ)

Unfortunately, this also means re-rendering the animation with the opening cockpit as the flashing lights have to be visible. But it's worth it and I anyway wanted to re-render because of the missing reflective shader on the helmet.

You are a perfectionist and think of a lot of little details. My sincere compliments (again)!

What Ulco said and it's a pleasure to watch the development.

Ditto all.  :)

Great how all this perseverance is so rewarding. I also enjoy the midi files even today. I wondered if the new high tech would even recognize them. Now we know! :) I am sure final version will be great with Crockett's Theme and Galactica March as well. I picture full orchestras projecting this clip and syncing tunes to your animations....hahaha. Fantastic effort!

Completely agree...gob smacked by your attention to detail...
