Title: "Class M" Planets & Rings *free tech pack available now*
Post by: FrankB on February 06, 2009, 10:31:43 AM
Hi all,

I've been working on a "Class M" planet, entirely procedual, decorated with an objects based planetary multi-ring.
The procedural planet surface works pretty well for views from the orbit as well. All these renders have been really fast, none of them longer than 30 minutes.

These planets, and the rings, will both be part of the "Class M Planets Tech Pack". This Tech Pack will be made available for free to everyone, as a small "thank you" for your continued support and encouraging comments on my work.

I will have to do some work with cleaning up the tgd's and packaging it all up. I will probably be able to finish that today, tomorrow the latest. I will post back to this thread to announce when the Class M Planets Tech Pack can be downloaded from http://www.webnode.com

[EDIT] I'm done, freebie tech pack is here: http://nwda.webnode.com/terragen-2-tech-packs/ [/EDIT]

Cheers,
Frank

Hi Frank,

Nice crusty planetary shader! Is it me or does it look like there are some intersection problems of the clouds with the terrain?
The rings are cool :) Maybe you should decrease the size of the stones because they're huge in relation to the planet. I think these would be grapped easily by the planet's gravity?

Thanks Martin. Yes, the rocks are pretty large at the moment ;-) ... I don't know, I liked it that way, but they can easily be configured. I shall decrease their size for the downloadable pack.

Cheers,
Frank

quickly re-rendered "planet-1b-with-rings" with much smaller rocks on the rings. Took 11 minutes in 1680x960 ;-)
I've uploaded that to the first post of this thread.

Cheers,
Frankl

Excellent planet Frank I'll definitely have to stick a ship in orbit and take a look.
About the above, you may want to tune down your advanced settings for packaging as not to many people are running I7's aarghhh. ;)
I recognized the problem as soon as I saw the error but many newbies won't.

Cool work. Nice colours on the planet's surface.
