Hi

Terragen 4 Mac (4.1.14.0 - 64 bits) crashes while browsing the library. The crash happens towards the bottom of the library.

My current specs (NEW, Yeah!):

macOS Sierra (version 10.12.6)
Mac Pro (Late 2013)
3,5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB

Merci

Can you try going into the Preferences and deleting the library database? The option for this is under Preferences -> Library -> "Delete Library Database". Please be aware that this will lose the data on any items you have added to the Library. If you don't want to take this step then you can try clearing the previews, which is another option in the preferences there.

Hi Oshyan

Well, I have 523 items in the library (collected over the years...), so either course will be painful! I will try the perhaps least painful second option over the week-end (though if it does not work, the first option will also make me redo that step).

Merci

OK. If it only started happening recently, then it may be related to some item you added recently. In that case you could try just deleting the most recently added items.

We can also backup your library database before you delete it, so that you can restore it if that does not fix the problem. I don't have a Mac to test on but I believe the library database would either be in the Terragen application bundle, or in the user data folder somewhere.

Hi Oshyan

Actually, I had just found out this problem after having first migrated to my new computer and second upgraded my copy of Terragen, so I do not know at what stage the problem occurred. It does look like the library database is corrupt however, as the Terragen 4 version (in ~/Application Support/Terragen 4/Terragen Library/ is smaller than the Terragen 3 equivalent, while I have only kept adding things (if you have not changed the library structure between versions, that is...). So it looks safer to just junk the library and star adding things up again. While I am at it, I might just as well move the data it points to to an external disk (which I did not want to do because I was lazy and did not want to rebuild the library... Oh well...).

You may be able to copy over the Terragen 3 Library DB to Terragen 4. Give it a try...

Hi Oshyan

Well, I just rebuilt my library, and the problem went away (this time I left out billboards ans OBJ objects, as these can be seen, or used, outside of Terragen, and imported as the need arises). Thanks for solving the problem.

If I may, I have one suggestion. This is not the first time I rebuilt the library, and perhaps will it not be the last. Save for this time, I did so because I moved the objects the library was pointing to, to a folder on the same disk or partition, and the library did not update as a consequence. This is quite surprising from a Mac user's point of view (though in this case it would not have been a surprise, as the move was to another disk, and in that case aliases do not follow). Perhaps this behaviour could be implemented at a later time.

Merci

Thanks for the feedback, we will consider adding that. I agree that on the Mac it is often expected that moving things doesn't break such links, although I don't know how easy it is to handle automatically if as a developer you are not Apple. :D
