Title: Shape lights in Terragen? Or populate lights?
Post by: westergard on November 16, 2022, 04:10:55 PM
Hi, i'm trying to create a scene in Terragen 4 which reproduces a huge black hole in space with 2 disks that radiates lights...  If you have any answer as to how to do the following things, that would help a lot:

1- Can you shape a light in a ring form?  Or apply a shape shader to a light?
2- Can you populate multiple lights in a ring form?

I need my light to be in the shape of a ring, any other ideas about how to do that?

thanks

Hi westergard,

Currently in Terragen you can not apply a shape shader to a light or create a population of lights.  You could however, create a light source from geometry in the shape of a ring, apply a Default shader, and set its luminosity value so that it emits light.  The rendered results would look best with the Ray Trace renderer as opposed to the Standard renderer, especially if it needs to illuminate other objects in the scene.

There may be other methods to achieve the look you're after; do you have any reference images for what you're trying to accomplish?
