Title: Why is OpenVDB export only on Linux?
Post by: jwiede on November 20, 2018, 09:15:11 PM
I can understand why building/integrating OpenVDB might be more difficult for Windows, but I don't understand why it isn't also available in the Mac version?  Working with OpenVDB on Mac is about the same as working with it on Linux, in terms of complexity, so...?

Will OpenVDB export be available for the other platforms besides Linux within the next few revisions released?  It's enough to make me consider renewing my maintenance, but being on Mac, it offers me no value if it's going to remain Linux-only for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for any clarification you can provide!

Matt would have to weigh-in on any specific technical reasons, but I do see there is a Mac binary for OVDB. So I've opened a feature request for this. We do plan to bring OVDB support to all platforms in the future, and though we don't have a specific time frame for it, it is likely to be one of the higher priorities for the near future.
