I know what you mean. The ironic thing is I can easily do it with my DSLR in the physical world, but trying to replicate those settings isn't as simple as replicating those settings.
Now if we could chose lenses in Terragen...

Actually it is very simple in TG too. Really. Just put your camera in position and then turn on the DOF preview and play with the focus distance while watching the preview. The preview is doing the main job here as it shows very well where you will have blur and where not.
