What's that star right over my avatar? I cant find anything about it.

It's just a little graphic associated with your member group ("Normal Member"). Other groups have different numbers of stars or different graphics, for example mine is a "Planetside Staff" image.

That's cool and all, but I have never seen something else than these to either.
For example: I have never seen someone with more stars.

That's because pretty much everyone is just a normal member, aside from Planetside Staff. ;) In order to display the custom "Planetside Staff" image it's easiest just to have all "rank images" turned on, so that shows your single star as well as our "Planetside Staff" image. Otherwise we'd just have them turned off since rank is not particularly important around here.
