After heavy rain and mudshifting apparently these holes in the ground can happen...
I would pack anything that i have and would go somewhere very far away!

There's an article on wikipedia describing such phenomena: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinkhole
Aparently, if there's a sufficiently large and instable cavern in the ground, its ceiling can collapse and leave such huge sinkholes. I guess it's round because center parts of the ceiling are more likely to fall off than parts at the edges.
Just found this image when searching for the sinkhole that also formed in Guatemala in 2007...
sinkholes have opened up multiple times in my home town, once at a car lot, and another at a high school school, for all i know.
Florida has a high concentration of sinkholes, especially in Wakulla county.
It is not a sinkhole, it is something much worse: http://science.slashdot.org/story/10/06/04/1159221/Giant-Guatemalan-Sinkhole-Is-Worse-Than-We-Thought (http://science.slashdot.org/story/10/06/04/1159221/Giant-Guatemalan-Sinkhole-Is-Worse-Than-We-Thought).
yikes! that does sound worse, i would definitely not want to be there very long...

Look at it from a much optimistic point of view:
If Guatemala wants to build an underground city they do not need to dig out all the dirts. :D
