Title: Alpine Terrain
Post by: Largent on June 23, 2010, 06:27:26 PM
I was hoping to find a good way of creating a realistic alpine terrain without using an outside program like worldmachine or geocontrol. I think its on the right track.

Odd colors, but the terrain is very good. Keep going, this will be a nice project.

Ha, yeah, I slapped them on last minute...I'll probably add some fake stones and snow, tree populations and some background mountains

I use strange colors when I want something to be seen easier while I work on it.

Yes this looks pretty good - are you using the Alpine fractal?

No, actually its just a heightfield with some powerfractals and then eroded (which is a node I have never used before but was pleasantly surprised by).

Yes, the erode node can be useful - I've found I need to keep the values quite low, or it takes a looong time. But applying two in succession can produce interesting results.
