In the "Cumpute terrain" node there is this "Gradient patch size" slider.
What is it exactly this thing do?

Simple answer: it "divides" the terrain in patches. to get the best idea of what this means just create some terrain and make a few renders with different patch sizes (1, 25, 100, 250) and use a surface layer with smoothing activated on the terrain.
