Title: Chocta Ridge
Post by: Henry Blewer on July 18, 2010, 02:29:04 PM
I tried to get the lighting to be better in this one. The white area on the left is the base of a waterfall. I was not able to get that to work; back to the drawingboard.

The water color is approximately how the river looks in Binghamton NY now. The Susquehanna is muddy. This time of the year it gets green with algae.

I agree, quite nice. A bit less dark than usual. ;)

agree too. very nice transparency in the water :)

Thanks guys. Getting the water right was tricky. The color comes from the underlaying color and density of the water shader. Too much density and the water was too brown. Too much green color and it looked like weak pea soup.

Very nice.

Only thing was the rocks in the wather. To fiew faces on them. Maby add a little texture on them to.

This is a wonderfully realistic scene with, I agree, great water and algae. Will you need to Enable Ray Traced Shadows to make the distant land (far left) visible or will decreasing the Haze Glow Power / Amount in the Atmosphere fix this?

John, the bright white area is actually a low cloud layer. This was where the failed waterfall was. By the time I noticed it in this render, there was too much time involved to stop.
I did reduce the atmosphere light effects by about 3/4 of default strength. The sun intensity had to ne quite high because of the low angle to the horizon. I worked out a better light scheme yesterday on a new terrain. Old advise wich you gave me a year or two ago; add another sunlight source. ;)

One of your best so far Henry :)
I really like how you balanced the tree's textures with the lighting. I presume you adjusted them from the default?
I like the shallow water with it's transparency (good transparency colour!) but also reflections.

Martin,
Sorry for the delay replying. I moved a few doors away from where I was. The internet has just been connected.
I used some very thin clouds along the ground. This was to disperse the light around. I also used GI settings in the render tab of 2 and 4.
The water has reduced reflection to around 0.6. The transparency was increased to the pond depth. The Volume 1 density was raised to 0.066 and a light tint close to the surface color was used.

This one is pushing realism to 99.9%. Fine work Henry - they are getting better and better!
