This is my first time having this problem with my terrain - stretched, horizontal lines across the terrain.
Now I did searched the forums and found http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7667.0 that I'm having the same problem. I've also did put the gradient patch size slider all the way to Max and turned on smooth surface but it didnt fixed the problem.
I'm using 2 power fractal terrains with 2 twist and shear shaders and a merge shader to bring them together and Ive gotten this type of problem.
Please help! Thanks.
P.S. Windows 7 does great wonders with the Snipping Tool :)
Check the roughness and spike limits of the fractals. It may be a roughness of 0.5 and a spike limit of 0.2 might be enough. The default of 1 is often too much.
Well the thing I do want the overhangs to be that high for what I'm going for.
Here are the settings (see attachments).
But I'll modify those 2 areas see if i can get a difference.
Just a gamble: why don't you try blending the spikes by (a) distribution shader(s) and setting the height fuzzy zone as large as needed to bend the spikes, but not all the way from the ground. You might get rid of the horizontal bits, perhaps. Another point is that your smallest scale is perhaps too small. Change it from 0.1 to 5 or so. Then add your small displacements later, after the twist and shear thing.
It's not the patch size, I'd say.

I would like to remind you guys if you're using the Merge for high displacements for your terrains, make sure you put the "Change by Altitude" drop-down menu to "All" to avoid streched, horizontal lines in your render (in this case, putting it to "Highest" WILL cause them).
That is all.
Thank you.
