this is just a preview of an upcoming project i'm working on (its a big one)
a future cityscape render i have have been commissioned to do for a friend. :)
these two buildings haven't even been built yet
most of the other buildings i will be re-creating are real buildings
in front: Del Villar
in back: Union Station Tampa
Wow, those buildings are cool. How did you do that?
I like them, too!
They look great. Sounds like a large project.
@ Jbest - these buildings were modeled with lightwave 3d
im using whatever concept art/photos/renderings/info i can find to create these
google earth/google streets is also helpful.
@henry - its a VERY LARGE project. :D
i have at least 35+ buildings to do.
modeling the selected buildings is just part of it.
Nice work on the windows. Are you using a chrome shader?
This will be great to see when the project is done.
Thanks for sharing.
yes, i am using the chrome shader (yours)
Sweet. I never would have thought of using the shader for window glass. It looks terrific.
yeah, the default shader reflections did'nt seem to work, very well, no results, also tried the water shader.
so i tried your chrome shader, it worked.
a list of some of the real buildings (with pics)

i'm currently working on One Tampa City Center. :)
tomorrow i'm going off on a much needed vacation, i will be gone for about seven days, and i probably wont have any internet access while i am away.
after that i'll be ready to get back to modeling and rendering
-Update-
should have another skyscraper out soon....
i think i am going to put the buildings i make out on the NWDA community store pretty soon..
interested?
i'm pretty sure you would be...
they will likely come in both TGO and OBJ formats, complete with mid or high resolution textures when needed..
Corporate parks coming soon... 8)
yeah, planetside park, NWDA plaza park, Walli forest park, MGebhart park.....

One Tampa City Center...
(a preview)
more textures coming soon
Looks nice already , Zaai999 :)
Do you want to use Soft Shadows ?
not on purpose kadri, i left soft shadows on in a previous render (with the other two buildings)
it was'nt really a problem, i left it running overnight, and i had work the next day.

Thanks , Zaai999 :)
the skyscraper's geometry is complete, but i've run into UV unwrapping problems, and i had to use a custom UV unwrapping method to get it right
should be around soon
One Tampa City Center.
got around the uv unwrapping problem.
90,640 vertices/68,927 polygons
C&C welcome
crisp and clean looking models...very nice work!
Really sharp looking. This project will be quite awesome!
forgot to mention this but One Tampa City Center's height from ground from top roof is 573 ft. / 174 m.
full height is 629 ft. / 191 m. 8)
i will start on the next one today :)
This is looking great Lane! Looking forward to more!
one last render for now-
watch out, its 2500x4000 px.

found some workarounds to lightwave's crummy UV unwrapper.
textures were baked within LW (cubic projection) 8192x8192
Wachovia center - wip
personally i like the design of this one
C&C welcome!
Very cool building, zaai999. Great project.
It would be neat to see these buildings rendered together. It would also let you see if there might be memory issues.
looking forward to TG2 64 :)

there will two versions of this building, this one, and a future one that is taller.

Could you elaborate on this?
PLG UV tools

still getting my head around some of the features.
Thanks Zaai!
a few more textures to paint/bake and it should be ready for a final render.
I am looking forward to it.
should'nt take to long, the uv meshes aren't 100% perfect though, found some distortions in one, had to manually fix it.
finished the textures last night, but now i've ran into a different issue thats holding me back - poseray appears to be messing up the UV maps when i load the object before i export it, making it so the textures dont display correctly in the render
messed up textures
i'm trying blender's UV mapping system, seems like it unwraps things more correctly
lightwave seems to distort/stretch pieces of the mesh at times
Blender will do strange things also. It is crucial that the unwrap uses the object center for proper alignment.
I have found Blender UV to be a royal pain... Maybe I just need more practice with it.
had some success with blender, but still having the same problem when i load the objects into poseray
must be some sort of problem with the verts or polys
aggravating...
I had the same problem. I think that changing the mapping to cubic solved it. I don't remember exactly. It was something like that.
if only TG2 had cubic mapping... :(
that would simplify things a bit in my case. :)
