Title: Rocks...
Post by: Subcontrabass on March 15, 2007, 12:30:36 AM
I'm sure it's appalling that I have to ask this, but... I have no idea how to get a rock to show up once I add it from the objects section. Help?

I just wondered also....
and wanted to ask the same questions...*lol*

okay....is there anywhere a resource where to get a single rock? I´m not ready to play with 3d modeling....I just started with the whole stuff....but maybe someone knows a resource where to get rocks?

Thanks!

hi!

you could use the fake stones shader to create rocks and stones

here are examples of how you use it, it's quite easy after playing around a bit

Thanks....

that´s the one way....but how or where can I get single rocks....as .obj (or any other format)?

Belwo is my current projext...I wanted to put few, very few (maybe only one) bigger rock into the scene...into the water to be honest....
this turned out my first try using the fake stone shader with the bigger rock(s)....the small ones are okay....
The shape of the big ones is really strange....but maybe it´s a problem I haven´t used an power fractal shader on it yet....dunno....any idea?

also I wanted to add an image mask on them...but this hasn´t worked either...I don´t know where to add the image shader to....I tried several things but it hadn´t worked properly so far.
I´m the opinion that the grey stones dón´t fit well into the scene....

Try using a sphere with a power fractal for its surface shader.  Then give it some nice displacement.    I've gotten some pretty cool looking rock like objects out of this method.

Here's three made from that program - healed and then polyreduced
(lots of unneccessary detail in there)

Try using Powerfractals for surfacing and displacement (if you want more surface detail)

Good luck
