Title: Another creek
Post by: Dune on August 23, 2010, 03:46:54 AM
Just for fun. WIP, mind you, trying to get decent mud and some shiners, but they somehow end up too big. Perhaps I should use the tiny fake stones sparkle setup I used for snow... I made some clumps of reeds to fit the scene. But the Glassworth (the glowing plants) I dumped in the meantime, as I tried to give them this reddish shiny feel with some internal glow, which is just too much.

Beautifully atmospheric - if you succeed in tuning down the speculars this will be fantastic.

Very convincing scene Ulco!
Pity about those few bright spots on the mud, which looks great anyway.
Did you use a default shader or a reflective shader to get the muddy effect?
I'm pretty sure the latter, because that'd give more control.
There must be a way to control this better, but as you may know I'm not very fond of the way TG2 handles glow, specularity, reflections etc.

Well enough about that, the image is just good looking. About those reeds, did you model those yourself? I like them :)

I am still not sure this isn't just a photo.  ;)

I got rid of the bright spots now, they were due to the water reflections on tiny displacements. Decreased that. For the mud I started using to reflective shaders, one with highlights but no reflectivity, the other vice versa. Now I added some tiny fake stones as reflection 'objects' in the mud. Better to control. I'll render soon, after my wet grass is ready.

I did the reeds myself, thanks.

Very nice image Dune  :)
If i should say anything , maybe you could make the frame a little different-more relaxed(?). It looks like it is cropped just a little too much !
But this is nitpicking  ;)

This is a version with tiny fake stones + reflective shader as shiners. More subtle. But I somehow changed the mud settings, as it seems less muddy, I just realized.

Yeh, you need to reintroduce that reflective shader on the pondside mud to get it slithery again. This scene has a great pov and depicts a magical early morning light. Excellent.

You seem to have lost the slight foaminess at the edge of the water. But it's still great.

You're right, and that'll bring the foaminess (reflection artifacts, actually) back as well.
