Title: In report of 3 stolen renders of Deviantart!
Post by: Blackheart6004 on August 28, 2010, 03:41:03 AM
To Luc and the members of the Planetside community,

I was going through DeviantArt's gallery until I stumbled upon these renders - http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=%22terragen%202%22&order=9&offset=720#/d2oc0oy, http://szermierze.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2oqr9d, http://szermierze.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1wlrmr

These are the only 3 I found that can be found in Planetside's gallery and he's clearly stealing these renders and posting them as his own.

So if you have a DeviantArt account, logon and report the deviation of stolen art. I've already did and waiting for responses of the administration members on that site to take it down. I would suggest finding any of the renders from Planetside's gallery in his gallery should be reported as well.

Thank you for your co-operation.

You say he's posting them as his own, but mouseover the thumbnails and the original artist's name appears, njeneb and porcupinefloyd to name two.  Maybe he's posting stuff he likes; whether that is permissable is another matter, but the guy isn't signing his name to others's work in the examples I saw at the first link.  The second link thumbs seem all to be signed by the same artist, and I don't recognize the renders so I don't know whether they're his or not.

Yeh, szermierze had stolen one of my Terragen renders some time last year (2009). He/she definitely claimed it as the mouseover on the thumbnail indicated it was by sziermierze and below the full image in his/her gallery it said "by = sziermierze". I reported it to the Deviantart admin who removed it from his/her gallery and apologised. Checking his/her gallery today I see he/she has still got "Local Flavor" by matrix2003 in his/her gallery, and is claiming it as his/her own. Bill (matrix2003) might be ok with that as I'm sure I notified him of this many moons ago.

I just checked his Deviant Art page. I did not see any of mine in it. But a lot of my stuff has been posted on sites I never have visited. Normally these give the proper credit.
Maybe I should start using a stronger copywrite. I just use the normal Flickr copywrite.
I gave up on Deviant some time ago. The ads were obnoxious; too much flashplayer using up CPU cycles.

I can't see any of my works on his profile so either he deleted the deviations which were not made by him or someone has found our (as for forum members) works on his "Favourites" folder. For people who aren't familiar with deviantART - it may be hard to tell apart user's favourites from user's gallery. Especially now - after DA has introduced "Collections" feature.

I usually post my stuff with creative commons licence so I wouldn't be surprised to find it somewhere on the internet but it would be nice if someone would credit it.

But claiming someone else's work as your own generally sucks.

I think this one is in his Favorites. The credit is correct. Just for kicks I uploaded a couple more. Let's see what happens...

Thats because it's in his gallery not his "Favorites" folder.

For http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=%22terragen%202%22&order=9&offset=720#/d2oc0oy - The original is here (http://www.planetside.co.uk/gallery/f/tg2/luc_tgd50.jpg.html). Here you can see is the original with Luc Bianco's name at the bottom of the render as of the original. While on DeviantArt, he cropped out the name and put this render is his "Gallery" folder not his "Favorites" folder.

For http://szermierze.deviantart.com/art/Far-Away-115229475?q=gallery%3ASzermierze%2F25030501&qo=9 - The original is here (http://www.planetside.co.uk/gallery/f/tg2/nicolas_hoffmann_gi_mount2.jpg.html). In Planetside's gallery, the name of the person who created  the render is Nicolas Hoffmann. Though on the other guy profile name is called "Roderick"

For http://szermierze.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2oqr9d - The original is here (http://www.planetside.co.uk/gallery/f/tg2/file_1456307.jpg.html). In the original, it have grey borders around it and have the name and title at the bottom. While on DevintArt, he cropped them out and posting it in his "Gallery" folder, not his "Favorites" folder.

Yes, it looks like you are right Blackheart6004.

Perhaps we should inform one of DA moderators about this fact. You have provided a proof with links and such behaviour, according to DA rules can lead to permanent ban.

This generally sucks. Take a look at third link Blackheart6004 provided and read the comments.

Already did. :)

And now we play the waiting game.

Nice comment on DA Seth - way to go

Why not wait for DA to react at first place. They could ban him for example but now he removed some of the stolen artwork. Also, there is a comment on his DA profile marked as spam - is it the one Seth posted?

Update!!!

Both the 1st and 2nd deviation has been taken down!

Also have notes that proves it -

"Your Violation Report on deviation 'Far Away'
from ^devart
to *Blackheart6004
This is an automated message concerning a deviation which you previously reported, entitled Far Away. A member of staff has reviewed your report and the deviation has been removed.

Thank you for your report.

-- deviantART Staff"

" Your Violation Report on deviation 'Snowy Mountains'
from ^devart
to *Blackheart6004
This is an automated message concerning a deviation which you previously reported, entitled Snowy Mountains. A member of staff has reviewed your report and the deviation has been removed.

Thank you for your report.

-- deviantART Staff"

Now we have to wait on the last one.

He flagged it as a spam but I did got a chance tor read before he did it.
Also he took down his shoutbox.

So, clearly, this guy doesn't give a sh*t if he uploading stolen art.

He's going to get banned sooner or later.

Oh an also for flagging, I dont think he realized that he's submitting that to the administrators for clearance lol

This guy is probably frustrated by not being able to produce anything useful himself. He'll fall through anyway. Pathetic, really.

Just a typical, Polish smarty-pants. This country is full of people who don't understand the basics but this particular guy is stupid enough to post rather famous images, as their source is Planetside official gallery, and admitting that they are his own creations.

Blah.

Basically whole DA is becoming a mess lately. Especially the 3D scenes landscape gallery. Lots of photographs and renders of non-landscape subjects.

I commented on a few of them some time ago and mostly the response was "where do I have to put it then? If I put it there or there then I get a moderator message that I should put it elsewhere".

If you look at the quality-level of the entrance then I understand the moderators, mostly it is crap in its most pure form ;D

Oh yes, absolutely. I didn't mean those pictures!
I meant the dozens of photographs and non-landscape renders posted in the 3D landscape section at DA.

I was poking around his gallery last night. All the links posted here had been deleted by the moderators.
I was thinking of offer him some help, so he could do his own stuff. At least he has an eye for really good stuff. He should use it constructively. My job is basically working with misguided people; often frustrating, but rewarding when someone becomes a better person.

It's really sad to see people (if you want to call them that) steal other peoples work. But you have to wonder how much of your art is taken from the internet and used for their own purposes.

My daughter has a lot of her stuff up on Deviant Art (she is quite good at Photoshop) and imagine her surprise when one of her fans in Germany (we live in the US) sent congratulations on her art that made it on a book cover, she never gave any permission to use it. After she did some investigation she found a past post (she thought was spam, my wife and I also felt it was) on Deviant Art that wanted to use her art and they wanted her Bank Account number - she never replied to this person. This post was unprofessionally written and they didn't explain who they were. So to make a long story shorter they are German ad agency and the book was published by Random House of Germany, we went to a copyright attorney and he agreed to take the case and in the end my Daughter won her case, they tried to blow it off as a misunderstanding, I don't think so.

Since then she has been placing watermarks on her work and keeping the resolution down.

The reason I decided to post this was to give you another angle to keep a eye on, keep checking those book covers!

Great job guys!

Glen
