I'm having difficulty creating earth-like planets. Whenever I go to add water to my planet I always end up with either a "water world" or a planet dotted with hundreds of tiny islands.
The closest I have come to thus far is with the use of the surface shader, however the result I got was a planet with oceans that were in limbo between land and sea.
Am I doing something wrong as I've been trying to make my oceans (apart from my last few attempts) with the use of shaders. If so I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.
To make an Earth type planet is surprisingly difficult I suspect mainly because we know what it "should" look like so well.
Take a look at the NWDA site, they have a planet setup (http://www.nwdanet.com/buy-packs/7-preset-packs/48-nvseal-planets-pack.html) by NVseal which may be helpfull.
Also take a look at my Procedural Planet Shader (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7231.0)
Here (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=5705.0)are some images from my setup.
Good luck and show us your results :)

Also to add to your post, cyphyr, you created a tutorial on this :D - http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=7040.msg74867#msg74867
Thanks guys :)
