Title: Mojo Cake
Post by: schmeerlap on September 09, 2010, 05:18:13 AM
I knew you were coming so I baked a cake . . . baked a cake . . . baked a cake.  :D :D :D
The candle (gnarly spike) in the cake's centre, I fashioned using XenoDream.

I've also attached a screen capture showing the minor alterations I've made to the Mojoliths node network. There was a common seed node serving both the Grooves group and the Bulges group. I've given them independent seed nodes so you can adjust one without affecting the other. I've also made a change to the Voronoi 3d Diff scale and seed node inputs, which I find more intuitive. At the moment I'm trying to get my head round what Volker is saying regards power fractal colour control of the Voronoi 3D node. I'm anticipating a graphic (node  connection) illustration of what he is referring to.

I have this clipfile, but have yet to summon up the courage to go delving into it yet.....
great work John, as always love the colours and comp'

Interesting , John!
I don't know if anyone tried it but with a little more work (maybe more then a little  :) ) you could make some kind of micro world renders.

There you go, John - improvise, and improve!  I knew that clip could take some mods without terribly (or maybe so as in this case... ;D) disrupting the whole thing. We know know a little of TG2's terrain sculpting powers - and I'm sure there's more to come...

Those Mojos are a beauty - different - and I like different ...
And it looks very much like you have a great control of the voronoi ... (as soon as the powerfractal driven voronoi looks like a tribal your on your way)

Hi Schmeerlap,
nice cake indeed.
It seems you get some more regular patterns out of the voronoi than I managed.
I tried to figure out the difference between the mojoliths clip from rich2 and your version, and I found that there is some similarity between your standing structures and my old "psychedelic" clip.

Which I just used here: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=10676.0
And posted here, if you like to look at it: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=4975.0

Don´t get me wrong, I don´t want to complain or anything, I am just curious if there is an actual relation or just some kind of morphogenetic field. It isn´t such a farfetched construction.
Actually I am quite proud to have achieved some kind of proto-mojo, either way.
By the way: do you own the full version of xenodream? my results with the free version always look like they are melting away, (which can be nice) because it doesnt allow high resolution.
Go on baking! :)

Hi Jan
Fundamentaly I'm just using the Mojolith clip with some very minor modification as per my illustrated screen capture. I've downloaded your psychedelic clip but haven't yet got round to examining or playing with it. I liked that luminescent blue box render you did, and I noticed the whirly grooves in your Vorscape. I guess there must be similarities in both the mojoliths clip and your psychedelic clip for them to produce similar features.
Yes, I do have the full version of XenoDream. Sterling is promising to facilitate 3d mesh export with the texturing applied in XenoDream in a future release.
What I really need to do is try building my own blue node networks to help me fully understand the functionality of each device/node.

@Mahnmut: Without having known your clip I produced some time ago something very similar to your work ... http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=813.msg77269#msg77269
I think that playing with voronoi just leeds to this kind of 'shades'.

@John ... at the beginning I did not understand a single thing about functions ... until I started to try and play and fail and changed and got frustrated and tried other ways ... ,-)

The node network alone is worth a render!!!

@ Schmeerlap:
it won´t take you long to look into my little clip, it´s just an analogue to a little part of yours.
I don´t know what it means that you used a difference where I used a clamp funktion.
And you got some seeds where I didn´t use any input.
I think i can learn more from your clip than vice versa.
The one thing that I learned about my version is that the relation between the power fraktals size and the voronois size is essential and can lead to conpletely different results.

Thats what I meant by morphogenetic field.
I feel a little dyslectic, as if i should be able to read those symbols...

Best regards

Now my mother-in-law once baked me something like this many years ago on my birthday. And, she sang: 'If I knew you were coming I'd a baked a snake; baked a snake; baked a snake'. God rest her soul, she ate the first piece.

Kidding aside, there are great rewards for those who do this kind of experimenting ...we all learn from it. Great work John!
