It's been a very long time since I've posted anything here due to my summer job but alas, I am now free to Terragen once more! The inspiration behind this picture (and its name) comes from one of the key locations in J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarillion. Tumladen was a secret valley of everlasting green surrounded on all sides by an impenetrable wall of high mountains. This is my first go at it; as always comments and suggestions are always appreciate. :)

Nice foothills-with-mountains-in-background scene. I like the foreground grass deployment too. Could use one or two more different tree objects to break up the regularity of the ball-shaped tree.

Love the background mountains - procedural?
Thank you! I'm currently working on integrating at least two more populations of trees into the scene to add some variety. Also, the background mountains are just a simple, single alpine fractal without any adjustments on my part.
Looks nice! Curious on your new variation , darthvader1 :)
it is beautiful, especially in the foreground, the background is also good. but they seem disconnected...
good work all the same!
beautiful!
Thanks everybody! I agree that the background seems a bit detached from the closer hills; fixing that will probably come after I am able to nail down the nearby vegitation. This second version has four tree populations although one of them is barely noticable and wil probably will be removed to same some render time.

Damn fine work!
Very cool, as usual. The grasses and mid-distance tree distribution look fantastic! Nice one, Darthvader! :)
Even better - now there's more sense of depth as the trees are not quite so densely packed. The grass in the foreground is already good, but I think it might be improved by a bit more variation in shade, perhaps some deeper, more saturated greens. Excellent work!
amazing update it looks real! i love the trees! (but i don't have those) :D
Thanks everybody :)
those mountains look very new zealandy hehe great job man as others have said the grass is great! very natural in colour ;D
I really like this one.
Personally.... I would make the haze a little less dense so we
could see those beautifully background mountains a little better.

Awesome, and quoting from an ancient ad: 'Just the right combination of kiwi and the apple I suppose'. Great work and very pleasant to look at!
Shucks everybody :)
Wow, I missed this. Gorgeous populations. Pretty much perfect.
Nice work. I have been thinking about doing an image of Narogothond. But it's been years since I read any Tolkien... It might be a good project for you if you like.
New one! The populatons are just about finalized (except for the midground bushes; I don't like those at the moment) so now I need to work on spicing up the sky a tad.

Gorgeous!
Sweet :)
It's been a while since I've used Terragen, but this makes me
wanna fire it up again ;)
Really..... it's a gorgeous picture.

Absolutely stunning, almost like paradise. Set me up a little cottage there, please.
There's one thing that bothers me; the (almost artificial looking) hooked snow line upper left. Hard to get rid of maybe? And wouldn't there be a little more herbs, low shrub and flowers in the grass? Natural grass is often more 'disturbed'. Although it would lessen the parklike, Tumladen atmosphere. Just a thought, mind you.
It is getting better and better ... though I was not thinking, that the first one could have been improved very much ...
Good, good, good!
Thank you everybody! This project, while not all that technically challenging, has been a lot of fun to work on. The only challenge left is to create a system of clouds that complement the mountains instead of overpowering them. I think I may have it figured out but will have to wait for some crop renders to get done before I make the final render. Thanks for all your comments!
This is the final render for this one, at least until my new computer shows up ;D I've worked on the mountains some, creating a thicker feel to the snow, as well as adding some flowers and bushes in the near foreground. It's been a fun project and I hope you enjoy the results :)

FANTASTIC!
Did you use Dandel0's procedural grass, or grass objects + population variation?
One of the best Terragen 2 images I've seen for a while.
You must render this out in a bigger size when you get your new computer.

Terje
Thanks guys! The grass in the very near foreground is a single population but doesn't have any population variation, I just got lucky with the shadows from the trees casting some nice shadows. I didn't use Dandel0's procedural grass, but I did use his fake stone forest in the far background ;) In the mid-ground the grass is a simple surface layer with a trio of power fractal child layers to provide color variation. This layer has intersect underlying enabled which really helps to smooth out the underlying terrain. ON top of this is another surface layer with a color adjust node as the child layer to add even more color variation to the mix.
Makes a nice background. Added it to favourites in DA. It's very LOTR'ish!
Thanks for your explanation, darthvader1. It's in my folder of favorites.
