Amazing new Blender movie:

Jolly good effort I thought...
Very good showcase for 2.5

Completely different to big buck bunny, a lot darker. I was quite impressed with the amount of details they had in some scenes when viewed in 1080p.
Pretty amazing what you can achieve with a bit of free software and some talented artists.
Amazing what was done. All of the changes these artists made to Blender along the way of this production will eventually make it into Blender.
A great many of the tools have made it. The dragon's fire for example. Also the render engine was rewritten to handle lighting better. There has been a better effort to support external renderers.
I would like to see tgo output from Blender.
From the Blender 2.54 development page -
# Big improvements - This software has been used extensively in production of the Durian open movie project "Sintel".
# Feature complete - Although some of the 2.5 targets have been postponed, such as multi-window support showing multiple scenes, a full RNA data level dependency graph, or radial menus.
I also thought some of the rendering engine was yet to be added from the Sintel crew. Maybe I misunderstood?
It depends on who did the build (compile) of the source. The current Blender.org release uses the old renderer.
Do you know of a build that has the Sintel renderer? I thought this would only come on the Sintel DVD.

Try looking on BlenderNation in the dev area. There are many builds out there. Some are better than others. I have been playing with the 'official' release a little. Sorry I can't be more specific.
I thought it was an great movie. I wasn't too fond of the plot but the animation was quite fantastic. I also thought that the people looked kinda cartoony, but stuff like the mountains, dragons, and other things besides people looked pretty darn realistic. It was a great job, especially using a free program 8)
