I am a newbe
Every time I render I get a dialog saying My performance may be reduced unless I increase the size of the subdiv cache.
I don't see this in preferences. How do I do this. I'm on a mac pro OS 10.6.4

Also how can I select a portion of a scene to render without having to render the hole thing

Hi,

The size of the subdiv cache can be set on the Advanced tab in the Render node settings.

You can use a crop region to only render part of a scene. This can be set up from the Crop Region tab in the Render node settings. Just check "Do crop region" and you can then adjust the size in the 3D Preview.
