Title: 3D Coat?
Post by: rcallicotte on November 02, 2010, 12:13:52 PM
I'm thinking about getting the Educational version, since it's easier on the pocketbook and I work in a university.  Would anyone be willing to tell me your experience and point of view about the 3.5 version of 3D Coat?  I value the people within this forum's opinions.

I tried the demo a while back and I found it very powerful. Price/value ratio seems very reasonable to me and if I hadn“t already ZBrush, I probably would go for 3DCoat.
Perhaps I will do anyways, as the retopo features seem very powerful. Probably not perfect if you have to do game ready models, but for what I do..

Thanks Walli.  Seems to me the auto re-topology piece might be useful, but is it worth the entire package just for that?

You should try the trial. You pick up the tools quite fast and the learning curve is very low. I bought mine bit before the voxel version and got it pretty cheap ;)

eh I like it 3dcoat zbrush seems overhyped to me i dont do character sculpting i only use it for organic tree modeling and landscaping, but 3dcoat will probably be bought out by pixologic sometime in the near future as they did with Sculptris ::)
