Title: Camera path maya?
Post by: ruddiger52 on November 11, 2010, 03:28:46 PM
Is it possible to get a camera attached to a motion path imported from maya?

Terragen 2 is compatible with the Nuke .CHAN file format. So you would need to get your camera data into that format, then simply import it in the camera node of your choice using the Import Animation File option from the Animation Button menu next to the position and rotation coordinates. The animation button is next to most settings on the left, with an s-shaped spline curve and an A.

Correction to the above. Nuke .chan files are imported using the "Import Chan File" button at the bottom of the camera's parameter view. The "Import Animation File" feature is for raw key frame data for any single parameter, which chan files are not.

Eep, thanks for the correction Matt. It seems I'm giving out all kinds of not-quite-right info lately. :-[ I'll verify in the UI next time.

Just to add, we had to bake the Maya camera onto a ZXY translation free camera. The Maya guy here had to write a script to do that, seeing that he was using camera rotation translations other than ZXY which is what TG needs.

Well i followed the below tutorial which shows how to make a .chan file for nuke

http://lowrez.marklowne.com/exportchan.html

Then I imported the .chan into T2 as you guys described.  The camera does animate but it all is wrong.  In maya the camera basically moves in an orbit around an object. Creating a turntable of the object. Once I bring my .chan file into T2 the camera will only move up in a straight line and at a slight angle. Can anyone see anything wrong with the tutorial or my process here?

Attached is my .chan file

Thanks for the help!

I'm afraid I don't know Maya at all, but that link you posted is where we started. What I can say, is that you need to create a new camera in Maya with the same lens details, but with ZXY rotation order, ie it will rotate first in Z, then X, then Y. Link that to the camera you have already animated, then bake in the animation, ie a new keyframe every frame, then follow that tutorial. I would bet that is where you are tripping up.

So I duplicated the camera, changed the rotation order, and then parented it back to the original cam. Then I baked out the new cam and exported the .chan file as described in the tut. Still getting the same corrupted animation.    ???

The first number on each line needs to be a frame number. It looks like you do have a frame number in there, but on the 7th column instead of the 1st.
