Title: Desert Nocturne
Post by: choronr on November 16, 2010, 06:52:19 PM
A simple night scene of the desert where the sun's settings were adjusted to appear as the moon. Additionally, the atmosphere and lighting were tweaked to achieve these results. I've added the ground fog by adding a low altitude Cumulus cloud.

The following elements were used:

•   Night background file by dandelO.
•   Cumulus Fractus clouds file by dandelO.
•   Organ Pipe Cactus from a friend.
•   Palo Verde Tree from a friend.
•   Three different populations of Dry Shrubs  -  models by Walli.
•   One population of Grass Clumps  -  model by Walli.

Enjoy.

very atmospheric, if I may say so.
I always find it hard to reproduce the impression our astonishingly adaptable eyes get in the dark,
But you did a good job on that.
Best regards,
Jan

I agree. For me it has been too high a hurdle.  I really like the cactus and the tree silhouettes. Very good work.

Very nice work. You managed to handle the light very well

thats very well done!
If you plan to do some variations on that one, I would like to see a render with this "cartoony" blue lighting, so that you can see a bit more.

I knew something was bothering me about the image; but, I went to sleep instead of staying up and pondering the render further. I believe two things are contributing to the blue cartoony light; first, the fill light was set a very, very light blue (should have made it white); secondly. the atmospheric blue should have been further darkened to an almost black color.

Nice light! And beautiful tree!

I think my cloud files have some problems going on here, though. A bit dense and 'pillowy', or something. I wouldn't have recognised them as my fractus files if you hadn't mentioned it.

Good job, Bob! :)

Thanks Martin, I agree regarding the cloud density. I'm thinking a reduction of density and maybe more of edge sharpening would help.
