Title: Copper Hunter
Post by: fleetwood on December 18, 2010, 12:03:50 PM
Trying to create a rare Copper Iron meteorite. I believe I have got a very large Mint Chocolate cookie nodule here  :) or
a good start on some lichen patterns.
Made the Copper hunter mining drone with XenoDreams.
Exhaust is Dandelo's explosion method of a surface-less planet object atmosphere and internal light, plus added localized clouds.
Ocotillo by Gary Poole.
Tumbleweed by TerrAde.

I have never seen one of these meteorites. Would there be metallic areas showing through the oxidation? It may help a bit.

I'm not sure anyone has seen a real copper meteorite on Earth. But on another world who knows ?
I've personally seen meteors burn bright green in the sky, but there seems to be some doubt about
whether copper really shows up in meteorites or whether they are just pieces of float copper that have been mis-identified.

When I tried reflective metallic areas I had problems with odd black shadow areas and the render time went up rather drastically,
so I eventually dropped it and opted for a fully corroded look.

This is an example of the black reflections.

Wow, but that's really cool texturing work. Perhaps the black "reflection" issue could be resolved, though I'm not sure off-hand what's causing it.

I agree about the texture work. It looks great to me. I don't have an idea of how to get rid of the black reflections either. Inkydigit has done many renders with reflective objects. He may have some insight.
