Just for testing, but had to share this. These models are *awesome*.
Plus finally, we're going to get the right *kind* of trees that you need to actually make great in-forest scenery.
Cheers,
Frank
PS: forgive the medium image quality for now, this is just testing.
excellent render!
Lovely, I'm sure I've been there :)

wow! :)
awesome new trees and a overall awesome render even if the quality or size is'nt the best.
the new trees look excellent, certainly a step up from the ones we've used in the past.
Those are some nice trees! I might go so far as to say that they are...un-fur-getable... ;D
Very nice fir work! Who needs fireworks for new years on top of such splendor? :) Mature firs with no branches on the lower third or so should look good also when used in denser populations than this. A suggestion for improvement would be to make the stem a bit more straight.
Very nice Frank. It is good to see trees with a buttress base.
Looking very nice indeed. The only thing is the trunks seem a bit overly crooked for evergreens. I'm not sure exactly what kind of trees these are though so it may be realistic.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback! We've incorporated some of it during the process, for example, there now also one strictly straight model included. Speaking of it, here's a product render of the entire fir family to wet your appetite.
This is by far the most complex plant modelling project at NWDA so far, and we think the countless hours, days and weeks that went into making these super rich detail models are actually showing.
I may already disclose that there will be a full bundle (as shown in the render below), but also individual purchases of the first 5 models (from left to right, 5m to 22m). The full bundle - including the tall 25m and 30m models - will become available either late today or tomorrow at www.nwdanet.com
A happy new year to you and best regards,
Frank
They are absolutely stunning and a good and promising start for 2011! Congratulations, whoever made them (Walli?). They will find their way across the globe, I expect.
Wow they are good looking models.
cant wait.... :)
awesome tree models.
this is exciting, a whole new level in quality with trees.
HERE (http://www.nwdanet.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/closeup-final.jpg) is a new close up render. Too big for this forum.
Below is just a resized small preview of it.
Regards,
Frank
That is one wild looking tree! I wish the different branch textures would blend better. Maybe a power fractal to ease the hard edges?
These really do stand up to close up shots. I'm curious why these models are a step up on previous ones. Has some new\upgraded version of xfrog been used or just higher res textures?
It's a lot more geometry. It really only makes sense nowadays where people start to have 64bit OSes and lot's of RAM. Although textures are huge, too.
Cheers,
Frank
Fantastic models; the way all trees should display their natural attributes - especially for close up work.
Nice work! Makes me want to take up rendering again. :-)
