Title: Himalaya + v.2
Post by: dandelO on January 30, 2011, 12:10:05 AM
First one of the year! ::)

Had a bit of a break from TG recently so, I cranked it up a couple of days ago to mess around with the sand I posted.
I needed somewhere to use it myself because I'm a real lazy bugger when it comes to making scenes so, last night I began on this, which uses two different layers of the sand. 50 minute render on my wee dual core.

Cheers for looking! :)

Nice start (?), Martin, but I'm not so sure about the clouds. And if I correctly see a painted river, it would be great to be able to see some water, hence a slightly different POV.

Cheers, Ulco.

The central score was meant to be a kind of beaten road between the mountains and not a river. The right-hand clouds are a bit noisy, though, I agree. And I think the peaks could have been a little more pointed.
I like it, though, and I rarely really like my renders.
Maybe I'll go at it again with a thinner atmosphere and a wispier cloud as I figure we're at a pretty high altitude asl here.

A scale marker is a good idea too, maybe a little vehicle or two on the road to accentuate the size of the mountains, more peaks in the background, etc. etc. etc. I'll see, I've a tendency to overdo things when I stay at something for too long...

Cheers! :)

I changed the sky to make it much less busy. I liked the cloud seed of the first version for the distribution so I kept it and just edited the pattern.

Cheers! :)

That's great, Martin. The sky makes it a lot softer. Now hunt for some yaks... ;)

I like the balance of sky/terrain; however, you might consider moving the sun to the left and out of view - reason: the oval shape of the sun is bothering.

Thanks, folks. :)

I might just do that, Bob. I've nothing else on the cards at the moment really. Got some other pov's of this on the go, nice closeup ground shots and a vertical one too, I'll have a play around, it's a nice .tgd to mess about with.

* I'm kind of bothered by scale in this one. The ground texture should set the scale looking into the picture from the bottom but the distance to the mountains isn't as vast as it should be, they seem very close and not so big to me.
I need to enlarge the terrains to bring out some middle-distance atmosphere to suggest a bit more depth, or something. :)

Edit: Rounded off the Sun manually for now and replaced the image.
