I wanted to render a Very clean looking landscape. This is it. I hope you like it.
I used Walli's grasses and pines. The maples are Dandelo's

looks like a great place to roll down the hill...what about some flowers? daisies maybe?
I think you mean "pastoral".
Thanks Kevin. Actually, I was thinking of adding a church. But I liked the test render without it. I kept the name because the tgd is called that. I used to use image titles which better reflected the image. But the tgd was called something else; confusing when your skill increases. Saves hunting through hundreds of good, bad, and dropped files.
totally :)

i like it, looks very nice.
good one, Henry, has potential :)
Don't forget to add some lighting dynamics! ;)
Frank
Lighting dynamics? ???
he might be referring to the new RT atmospheres features
but i could be wrong.

I would guess that Frank is suggesting that the image has very flat lighting, especially for a scene with no cloud cover. My suggestion for fixing it would be (if you are not saving as .exr) would be to hit the exposure increase button 3-4 times, then up the contrast setting to around .45 or .55. This will give you much better contrast in the lights and darks and make the scene pop much more than it currently does. Other than the lighting it is a very nice scene with great hill-forms.
Yesss... Thanks for translating, Ryan :)
Good advise. I have been reworking this. It used nearly all my memory to render (too much grass).
Smoke some away ::) Is that all procedural grass, or objects? And I'd add some height and color variation (you know the method, don't you?). Or throw in some golf balls, and you can keep it like this. I like the scene!

I reworked this. I used a distance shader to thin out the distant grass objects. I also used Swamp Oaks this time (Another Marc Gebhart tree) The landscape looks like NY State expressway lawns last year. The budget would not allow for grass mowing.

I also played around with the Gamma and Contrast settings. I think this is too bright, but then I work at night, so my perspective on lighting is 'altered'.
wait... this is a completely different image than the one you opened the thread with.
This one isn't as interesting as the first one. Hurry, go back to the first one! :)
Frank
the first one was really better Henry !
you should go back to it and as stated by the others, you should work on your lighting. ^^
I remember Frank and I talking about a lighting tutorial, and I was a bit busy lately, but I think I would give a try to it.
come on, dude, i want to see more from the first render !
Ok, ok! This last one helped me work out some issues on the other. Now where was that camera location? ::)
lol, :D you are losing your mind!
just kidding :)

i agree with with both seth & frank the first was the best. you had it right on that one.
I found the camera...
I added Marc Gebhart's magnolia, and Walli's DNS flower. I reduced the grass object size. I plan on adding Walli's weeds in another render.
The mafnolias are in the pine covered creek bed. I'll add the creek later also.
Ok, back on track :)
Now, I suggest you push these trees a little farther away, as their geometry is a little too rough for close-ups I think.
And most importantly, you need more than twice the density of grass instances in the foreground. It's enough to have the first 10m popuated with a higher density, at this camera altitude.
I also suggest you go to the transform tab of the gras *object* and put a 2 or 3 into the box for the x axis. This will tilt the grass by 3 degrees, but as the populator rotates each instance, you will have a lot of variation.
Regards,
Frank
I agree with Frank that the grass needs a lot more density in the foreground.
I am working on that foreground now. I have put lots of weeds there. I am tweaking the grass density now.
I made the foreground grass too dense; the weeds are hidden. Rendered at detail 0.325 and AA 4.
nice! is that a mole hill I see?
:)
No, it's a weed. Maybe I should make gopher holes. ::)
Hiding the weed is a good thing Henry; seriously, you've done a goodie here - like the view and textures of the grasses.
agree

It's really cool! And thethe presence of of flowers adds originality ... :P
Ran out of memory during the final render. I am going to try using procedural grass in the distance. (I watched the populator, there was nearly 8 million grass objects! Looking forward to my 32 GB machine ::))
