Title: Can I add my own textures?
Post by: Gooner on February 08, 2011, 02:08:44 AM
I was just wondering , can you use textures you have created in Paint.Net or Gimp in images made with TG2? If so how would I go about using them?
I would imagine they would have to be saved as a png or jpeg first but whether I can actually import them into TG2 (or how) I`m not sure.

Yes, you can! In the node structure, right-click and open an image map shader (in color shaders). It'll urge you to find your jpg, tiff or so. You can project in several ways, but you might start with Y to get to grips with it. Set the size to the size you want your image projected (keep in mind the ratio of the texture) in meters, and attach the output to the input of a new surface shader's color input, or as a child. You'll see your texture projected on the planet's surface at near 0/0/0. If you check repeat X or repeat Z, it'll cover the whole planet. If you blend your surface shader by a fractal, or a simple shape or a painted shader you can tell your texture where to be present. Experiment from there...
