the wastelands of Khann, located north of Whintozhon forest
i used local clouds with a final density modulator shader.
2 of the nwda wild grasses
the fake stones pack from nwda as well
the original version is 3000x1600 pix.

Hi zaai999
Great Shaders and Atmo!
For my taste, the image now needs an eye-catcher:
Lighthouse, airship, tree on the horizon...
ciao
Naoo
Wow, great atmo! looks like a tornado is gonna form over there...
I like the mood of it. Very good at all...
i was thinking a tree, a dead, leave-less one at that.
likely in the mid ground or background
i wish i could find that tortured hand model i once had...

Great work on the ground and the clouds look amazing.
Great, man, I think it's like a photo, especially the right-hand side area with the shore and the water, just great.
If you were to crop that area, or, edit the camera to a vertical shot of the right-hand third and render it out, you'd never tell the difference between TG2 and Canon! Fantastic realism. :)
Very impressive. Agree about the addition of a leafless tree set in a position to balance the scene.
Terrifying atmosphere and surfacing. Great. Not a pleasant place, but these are mostly the most interesting to watch (like ruins). Perhaps some dirty foam near the shore? Or indeed a dead tree or something to give clues to relative size of the landscape.
This looks really cool, I actually prefer it without anything eye catching, I like the dark water and how the atmosphere is set up.
Yeah totally agree with that last sentiment. It feels bleak. It reminds me though a little of Sheerness in Kent, UK. It's on the coast, with lots of tiny wooden houses nowhere near each other with nothing but shingle separating them. Oh and a nuclear power station. Which kinda adds to the apolocyptic feel of the place.
i settled on using j meyer's dead tree, for now at least.
the clouds have changed - i was experimenting with clouds, but in the next one the clouds will be similar to the first one.

EXACTLY! this is pretty much how i imagined it to look in my mind.
Hi
Excellent tree!
But, move him "a little" more to the left side and turn the camera back more to the ground. And I found the clouds in image#1 a lot better.
ciao
naoo
Looking much better. The tree falls into the 1/3rds category and looks fine for picture balance. Scenes are always a compromise - you give a little and lose a little. In all, you've done a great job here.
This tree is an excellent choice as it seems tormented by its surroundings. Great!
moved the dead tree a tad to the left, changed the clouds.
render time a little over 6hrs.
Hi
Ahhh. Clouds better :)
But the tree was better before. Now he is out of the 1/3 (choronr said).
SORRY! I meant only a few pixels...
I made a quick overpainting for You (hope this is okay/allowed).
I moved the tree only to the wave on the ground and rotated him a little bit to the right.
ciao
Naoo
Really cool to see the tree in such an environment!
The original placement was better imo.
As for the clouds i'd try to let them fade into the haze towards the horizon,
but that's just a personal preference.
Keep going,J.
QuoteAs for the clouds i'd try to let them fade into the haze towards the horizon,
And I would keep it this way, as it's more a large oppressing cloud as it is now. And I like the distant sky in this hue.
i have been messing with the cloud color setting/lighting, at some point i'll post a few of them.
tried to match up the dead tree to its new location as best i could at this time. its harder looking through those smaller quick renders.
i've found copying coordinates from the 3d preview is a good alternative to the place/rest individual objects on the ground feature request ppl bring up sometimes.
not sure if anyone else was doing that, cause i haven't heard anybody bring it up before.

no problem Naoo.
Hi zaai999
It's great now ;D

This one is the best. Colors. lighting - the entire composition is pleasing.
bleak...excellent!!
not sure about the tree model, perhaps the texture or colouring? looks plastic, something for children to climb in and out at the local beer garden, other than that looking good.

i kinda had the same feeling about it Redwolf, the thing about that model is it is'nt mapped/textured like the other trees we have.
heres a alternate version with one of the new fir trees - with less needles
comments & suggestions welcome.
Hi,
the last one looks much more real.
The strange big tree looks more sureal (nice too),
maybe this old tree needs some displacement for the bark.
ciao
Naoo
The old tree in question is meant to be barkless and polished by weather. ;)
The look of the texture can be changed in TG2 to a certain extent, although
i got to admit that it doesn't lend itself well to putting on a PF for color.
I think it needs a deadish tree from a composition point of view, unless you are going with a complete contrast like say one of those japanese blossom things - I suspect not. The other one looked too fat or overscaled or something.
Wow, that could easily pass for a photo
zaai99 - I just uploaded a tree which may suit at ashundar
had some texturing issues with the dead tree from ashundar
i'm using Marc's summer aspen for the tree now, their is currently no displacement on the tree but i'll fix that soon.
C&C welcome.
Sorry about that. On reflection I should have done a bit more with it and tested it
However her's a tgc for it. Delete the default shader. Please don't feel obliged to use it I just felt I should make amends for rushing
i'm posting it to DevArt for hi-res & in the png format

C&C welcome again
this will be the last render for now i think, i'm working on the 2nd location for khann, i should have a new render out by this evening.
expect there to be lava...
Hi Zaai999
It's realy GREAT!!!
ciao
Naoo
Fabulous! I really like the atmosphere (literally), but I must say, the lone tree looks a bit 'new'. I preferred the gnarled one. But the total image is great.
Dissagree about the tree. You were done with the first image - reminded me of Whistler. Composition looks forced now and the tree detracts from the image.
Great work though!! Sky and ground and sublime

that's true, but i a tendency to give the ppl what they want, so it sends the scene off on to tangents.
Gerat work! Looks very realistic.
