Getting some weird flickering in ground fractals - the defualt ones that live in the Height Shader node. Its like parts of the fractal are changing as the camera gets closer. I imagine this is a optimization trick based on camera distance? Is there anyway to freeze a fractal or set the distance further away from camera so we cant see the little pops?

It would help if you could give your rendering settings and perhaps a screenshot of the problem. This is likely a GI problem and is most dependant on your rendering settings. There are a lot of posts about this specific subject if you do a search on the forum.
I agree. Ethan, could you give us a link to a movie so we can help you out with some settings.
Knowing detail level of the render in question would help a lot too. Optimization at lower detail levels is quite heavy.
