Hey, all -
I'm having trouble with the ivy leaves. I thought it might be the image format but that doesn't seem to be the issue. Take a look at the attached thumbnail. (Lo res, but enough to illustrate the problem, I think.) Note the white splotches around the edges - it's as though the alpha blending gets hosed, but only at certain areas at the edges.
I assembled the building and ivy models in PoseRay. Everything seemed fine there.
Have any of you seen this before? ???
Is your leaf image .png or .tiff?
I've tried .png. .tiff and .bmp. All come out the same. (And yes, all were 32 bit, all had the correct image in the alpha plane, and the correct checkbox on the opacity settings was checked.)
Hi Harvey
yes I have seen this before, when I tried to use an XFrog import in MojoWorld.
I think (can't promise though) that its an orientation or sizing problem when the image is UV mapped to the model. Not all 3D programs read meshes in the same way , particularly .obj meshes. Some rotate them by 90 degrees, some flip them into mirror images of themselves. I've never figured out how or why. Just a suggestion, you might try experimenting with rotating your Leaf image by increments of 90 degrees (and also mirroring it), until you get a 'fit'.
hope I'm not leading you astray, but that's what it looks like...
Thanks, peejay - that sounds like it may be correct. I will experiment and report my findings.
:)
Well, it doesn't seem to be image orientation.
Does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of is that the model I grew the ivy on had it's face orientation other than what the ivy generator liked. I had to check the 'flip normals' checkbox in the ivy generator to get the seed to appear on the outside of the wall.
Here's another image.
<edit>
Well, I just did another little test where I flipped vertex order and normals on the building obj before growing the ivy. The seed appeared on the outside of the building without me having to check the 'flip normals' checkbox. Leaves look exactly the same.
I quit.

Does it happen to all of your models?
How big is the model you are using?
Is it possible to zip model, images so I can take a look?
Hey, sonshine -
Yeah, I'll package up the obj and let you take a crack at it. (I appreciate your help.) Maybe it's the modeling program I'm using; I don't know. It'll be a while before I send it off, though. I need to get a bite to eat (and maybe a couple of beers.)

Sounds good. If its too big to post you can try e-mailing it to me. sonshine777@comcast.net
I have transformed files .png in .tif by means of Photoshop. The result seems good enough.
Very nice. Thank you for your help.
::)
Victor - OH MY GOSH!!
Cool.

Hey, Sonshine -
The .zip is on it's way. It... errrr.... may take you a moment or two to download your email.
;D
Harvey,
I am at work right now and will be home in about 7 hours, so it will be at least that long until
I can open the zip and look at the files. let you know more tonight. :)
Cool. No problem. I have plenty to do in the meantime.
And thanks again for your help.
:)
