Title: max to obj?
Post by: Dune on March 08, 2011, 04:34:07 AM
Not really a Terragen subject, but is there anyone out there who can convert a 128kB .max file to an .obj or .3DS or even .tgo? I don't have max, but I found a nice locomotive which might suit my railroad.

Blender may be able to do this. They were re-writing the object conversion routines last I knew. These may have been finished by now.

At 128kb it's not going to be a particularly good model. I'm sure you could find other better models.

I've got some better ones by now. Even sketchup files, although it's a lot of work to re-texture them...

We have this 3d object site link here on our forum somewhere.
Did you see this , Dune? It is a MAX file too unfortunately.
(Only Max can open this files. Why do they post only MAX files?
Do they get commission from Autodesk ! )

Thanks, Kadri. I know about this site. I don't know if I got it there or elsewhere, but where I got it from it said no commercial use is ok. Nothing about credits. I wouldn't know where to turn to if I wanted to buy some rights for some unforeseen (unlikely) commercial use, though. I think I found the same loc (or very similar) as a sketchup model. There's lots of stuff out there I have found out by now, and not everybody cares about use or credits.
