Title: Moodflow Mojo
Post by: Markal on March 23, 2011, 08:02:04 PM
I merged two of Moodflow's starfield background clip files...one red, one blue. I also used Rich2's mojoliths clip file along with one of my World Machine 2 terrains. I ran into a problem with Moodflow's use of masks in the starfield clip files. After re-seeding the masks many times I realized the masks were very angular or tri-angular and many times cut off the cloud or nebula flow of clouds at sharp angles. When I disabled the masks then no clouds showed. I know a little about masks but don't know enough...maybe someone could explain them to me and also why Moodflow's masks seem so angular or even why he chose to use a mask at all? Moodflow's "Starfield Background.tgc is available on this forum and is awesome!!! I know I'm a bit slow to catch on but, Clip files can be merged....hmmm....so many posibilities......TG2 ROCKS!!! :)
Thanks
Mark

Cool shot!. :)

It looks like the two spires have been cut off at the render tile borders. I bet the 'finished rendering' 3D preview image doesn't look like this, with both spires exactly as tall as each other and cut-off perfectly horizontally, does it?

I think increasing displacement tolerance is supposed to help that but I've never seen any improvements when using it for this reason(I've tried to correct these issues before by this setting and had no luck)...
You might try crop-rendering the central two spires with only *one render thread* so as to not cut off the spires at the AA bucket borders(that's where you'll notice the cutoffs are happening).

I like the cave-painting style noises on the foreground! :)

An interesting question DandelO...I had'nt noticed it but the central spires are offset and at different distances or depths yet....are the same height (maybe due to Rich2's mojoliths clip file...I dunno???). Hmmmm....very puzzeling? Still my question on masks (starfield) remains....any help on use of masks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Very nice picture. How long did this take to render?

Hi Mark,

Sorry I'm late; got one in the creation stage that's giving me fits. You know how it goes.

A very good combination of elements here. I like the alien feel to this along with your light. I would like to see a FOV effect here where maybe you could slightly blur the foreground and have a sharp distant view. I believe this effect is forthcoming in a future update; but, you should be able to achieve it in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.
