Well, I'm still not satisfied with the ground... I would like to add more detail, and maybe some disperse cracks in it... Any crits/suggestions welcome!!
You know, as I look at this image, I get thinking that a marooned ship, lying on its side would look good here at a center of interest focus. Nice work so far.
Wow! thats fantastic! the only think I wold say is that maybe reduce your cloud sharpness?
I think the cloud sharpness is fine. You might consider decreasing the cloud density; maybe by 1/2 to see what results you get.
I really like the composition, very artistic!
lovely me say
How did you get those specular highlights on some of the stones? reflective shader?
Yeah they are a Reflective Shader applied on the fake stones. For the next attempt I will try reducing the cloud density too see what I get, altough it was my intention to have these dark and heavy clouds...
And maybe the stones on foreground are too regular-distributed, I'll also try to change that...
I'm afraid that a ship won't fit the scale to it, as the camera is really near the ground and the view is narrow, but it's a good idea to have some ship debris in the middle of it, the only thing is that I don't know to model that... ::) And maybe its rather difficult to find for free download...
Anyways, thanks everyone for the response!
Ah okay, I tried doing that myself.. But it didnt work for me.. I put it in the color Function, is that right? or is it the luminance? This type of thing gets me confused.
Interesting image Mesocyclone! I like it :)
@ Themodman101 : In the Shaders tab, just create a Reflection Shader as a child shader for the stones. ;D
I like the ground as it is. Looks like you're in a cave.
Here is v2.
- Decreased cloud density by 1/2;
- Added a PF shader as a displacament function for the sand surface layer
- Darkened the colour of the sand layer a little
- Decreased some stone scales
- Enabled GI surface details, increased GI sample quality to 3
- Minor changes in reflective shader
Hope you like it!
You can see the results of each of the elements you've changed. Another idea: I think there is a 'leafless tree' either here at the forum; or, at Ashundar. I think one would look good against the light as a silhouette; and, a center of attention. Also, I'd be tempted to reduce the reflectivity in the foreground.
Very good work so far.
Personally I love it the way it is, but a dead tree would certainly be most welcome.
Dandelo's maples have a winter shader node. Or perhaps some of Marc Gebhart's trees.

Here is v2.1... Just some minor changes. Thanks for the links and suggestions, fot the next version I'll try the dead tree.
Version with tree from Marc Gebhart. Some changes in the clouds and displacements as well. Hope you like it!
Nice lonely render. I used to collect posters when back in the late 1970's. This would be an image I would have bought.
Thanks! ;D I might consider this the final version...
Now this is looking fine; good work. If you were to print, I would suggest cropping off 10% of the top; and, 5% of the bottom.
