Title: Some of my aviation art images for you
Post by: max_thehitman on April 25, 2011, 02:20:14 PM
Good day everyone,
This has nothing to do with Terragen but I think you might like to see
some of these.
I am posting here some of my old aviation digital art images for you to enjoy.

Hope you like them
Cheers
MAX

album 2 - http://www.flickr.com/photos/36461849@N08/

All images have been reduced in size (1024 x 768) as the original are way too big to
post on the internet.
I have done over 1300+ images over the past years, I will post the rest for you later.

Here is my old Deviantart website for some other images - http://maxhitman.deviantart.com/

Very nice work in your gallery. Love the meteor strike images.

* And Deckard isn't a replicant. I think. ;)

Very nice Max. Are these rendered 3D objects mixed with photo's and Photoshop painting or are the planes digitally painted?

I have the exact same question :)
I hope 3D models. I have some cool (not shown yet) canyons which could be cool to combine with a jet-fighter :)

Cheers,
Martin

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the artsy images. I am also a big aviation fan too.
I got my head in the clouds for along time now! LOL  :D
To answer your question, its all of the things you mentioned. Some images are completely painted from the start, either by hand , digitally in Photoshop or  by a computer program such as terragen. Some images are done in Photoshop by photo manipulating various backgrounds pictures to create a "matte painting" background and then adding an aircraft which comes from a flight-sim game. Such as IL-2 Sturmovik or other cool Sims.

I often grab a screenshot from a previous flight in the games or an already posted image from the fans, then slowly cut out the aircraft from the scene, rework the entire airplane and its many details, even markings and camouflage to represent the actual real aircraft I need for my scene.
Recreating an entire aircraft is often done when its for a special artwork for a World War 2 veteran (or his family) , or for some websites which represent various WW2 (or other era) Air Force Groups or Squadrons.

I also paint aircraft skins for various Sim aircraft, which also helps to create the actual airplane I need for an aviation scene. The whole process takes a few hours to paint and create. Anything from 6 to 48 hours, even more if you want to paint in all the fine details into the scene.
I have many tutorials available in many other forums dealing with this type of art. You can also check some of those club houses if you are interested in doing some aviation art for yourself.
The place I recommend to start would be http://screenshotworld.com/frontpage/ .
They have many talented artists and good friends over there and tons other cool aviation art images posted by everyone. Some folks even create aviation art using Terragen-2 clouds and its backgrounds. So TG-2 is a great way to start making backgrounds for such aviation scenes.

If some guys and gals are not too good at using Photoshop for post-work image manipulation to add an aircraft into the background images, I suggest adding them by using some of the free airplanes and other objects already available in many internet websites, such as Bazze´s airplanes.
Check out some of his images here... http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=57133
His airplanes are here for FREE downloading and in obj-format for use in Terragen !... http://www.colacola.se/map_1.htm
