Title: Custom Object to DEM?
Post by: I3D on April 27, 2011, 08:09:39 AM
Hi guys

So I have a landscape done in 3D, i want to be able to bring that landscape in TG2, recognize it as a terrain model and shade it accordingly, does anyone know how? the Height-field importer only recognize images and DEM file, but not LWO or OBJ formats!

The idea is that i want to bring the model in, use TG2 surfacing features for coverage and break up, export those images as alpha and texture the whole thing in Softimage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

You already answered your question: TG doesn't support usage of object files as terrains.

You can import your model into TG2 and texture it with powerfractals and surfacelayers.
However, you cannot use restrictions as TG2 can't texture models the way it can with terrains, due to technical limitations.
After texturing you can render top-down views and use those renders as textures in XSI.

There are also some ideas here:

hmmm Thanks tangled

I can produce the same height map from Lightwave gradients based on height. This is a very good idea.
