A joy to play around with not changing the POV much is 'Dune's Fast Water' file which is super fast ...thanks Ulco. Image render time is just under 4 hours. This is available at the Planetside forum. This does not use the water shader, only the 'Lake' and some power fractals.
I tried adding a distant cumulus mass above the terrain; but, the reflection on the water was really bad displaying what appeared to be a salt/pepper effect - very noisy.
Added is the distant terrain 'Pleasant Valley' by Markal; 'Hero Rocks' by FrankB (from NWDA); grass patches by Walli (from NWDA); and, the ship 'Golden Hind', from an old acquaintance.
The only thing you now need is a little foam around the rocks (just a few patches would do nicely) and lower the ship! Use the painted shader to position some foam. Nice to see 'my' fast water in action, but the file is essentially very simple, nothing to brag about.
yes some foam around the rocks as Dune said would be real-life pic

Yea, she has run aground. The clouds would render well using the water shader. I reduce the reflection to 0.65 to 0.8. Helps the render speed slightly.
Ahoy Capt' Choronr!
this looks pretty good, some foam would make it look alot better.
the rocks in the foreground - are they FS? or is it terrain? if they are FS how did you get the grass to sit on the rocks?
you salty old dog!
lower the ship a little, add some foam, this will be absolutely perfect imho!
cheers
:)
Yeah, very nice, with some lil' bitty work already suggested this would be one for the "best of" gallery! The rocks are superb.

Thanks to all for stopping by and your thoughts. I'll have a reworked version soon.
Regarding the rocks, these are from FrankB's stone bed pack which contains the 'Hero Rocks'. One may change the image map for color and texture variation; and, can also place grass or any other object atop those rocks.
Here is the rework that includes some foam around the rocks ('Liquids' from 'Share CG); higher atmo decay setting; lowered the ship into the water; lightened the ship's diffuse color of the sails; increased the displacement of the ship's body; and, added some foam in the ship's wake.
Steve Taylor over at Terranuts suggested that maybe there is a scale issue with the ship; including possibly increasing the haze. I've tested this and moved the ship off further in the distance and it looks pretty good - however, increasing the haze didn't look too good as it dulled the appearance of the water. Your thoughts on these and any other ideas would be appreciated.
Nice looking scene Bob, again :)
As for the haze, why not try a low (localized, perhaps) cloud?
love the details on the ship!
another winner here!

Thanks Martin, I'll give the localized cloud a try. Earlier, I found that a distant cumulus cloud produced noisy looking water.

Thanks Jason, still working on this one - maybe something soon.
I still think the ship is riding too high. The foam makes the scene much better.
Not sure the foam is essential. It's a tough one to get right. The rocks look great. Love the grass on them. The ship could do with being a little lower. In fact you could probably double it's scale with those waves, make it more of a feature. The reflected light gives you the intended movement of a calm sea. Love it. Pirates of the Caribean!

Thanks Jon, I've another version rendering. Lowered the ship more into the sea and made it larger; and, added some fog
Another version testing the suggestions by Tangled_Universe and Hetzen. Added a low lying cloud; and, further lowering ship while making it larger.
Latest version is definitely the best IMO! Nice work man.
wow! agree with freelancah!
awesome scene Bob!
great work, Bob, love it! :)
great one bob! the mist/fog looks fantastic. :)
Very cool -- I like the composition a lot!
