Researchers have set a new record for the rate of data transfer using a single laser: 26 terabits per second.

Thank you.  This is great news on the technical front.  In 1989, I did a paper on the possibilities of something like this, but the experts (not me, mind you - I just read what they were saying) thought heat was its biggest enemy.
