Title: Valhalla
Post by: Markal on June 26, 2011, 12:07:08 AM
A bit simplistic...I know. Is there some way to overlay or use an image map on the surface of the water? I tried high water reflectivity but only the sun left a path on the water surface and it did not reflect the entire sky. I also tried an input to the water shader with a surface layer / image map but it didn't turn out right. I was trying to make the mountians look as if floating in space. Any ideas?

Anything you put after the water shader will annihilate the transparency, but I'd say you've accomplished what you're after; they look like floating in space. Did you do this with cloud layer(s)?
If you just need empty space beneath the mountain bases (and see the starry background there as well), a weird idea might be to feed all into a default shader and blend it's opacity by a distribution shader, so only the area above a certain height is visible and the rest of the planet disappears.

Interesting! Looks dreamy! I like it.

I like this quite a lot. Looks very much like a painting.

I know it is not considered proper by many, but you could always use Photoshop to add a reflection after the render.
Other than that this is a Splendid piece of work and deserves to be on the walls of Odin's Hall of Souls.

Great picture as it is,
but if you want stars below, there are several ways to do that.
I think warer transparency doesn´t play a role in this image, so you could replace the water shader with a reflective shader.
But maybe your water is simply to rough to reflect stars?
You can always mix any image map, shader or watever through a merge shader (using for exaple a distance shader for control)
But I really like it as ist is.
Best Regards,
Jan
