Title: Render Hang at the End of the Render
Post by: rcallicotte on July 20, 2011, 08:10:23 PM
The render keeps waiting and goes into "Not Responding" mode, though the visible render is well finished.  I have seen this especially when I'm creating something with the Micro Exporter.

The Micro Exporter does its export/file creation work at the end of the render. If you have a particularly large area to export or are using high detail settings, it will appear to hang for a while as it does this. It's still working in the background and if you check your export destination folder you can see the size of the export file increasing. It's recommended that you not use detail settings above 0.5, and in many cases not above 0.25, when doing geometry exports.

Hi Calico,

How long is this taking for renders without the Micro Exporter? Right at the end of the render there is a period when the render appears finished but the renderer is actually doing some final work. This can take some time especially for larger images.

Regards,

Jo

Thanks gentlemen.  It was the size of the file and the size of the render.  I'm moving it to 512X512 and .5 with no problems.

TIP: Also when you think this may be happening and are unsure if its frozen or not, find the actual file you are outputting, you will see the file size going up

I check the task manager also. See how much CPU Terragen 2 is using. If it stays flat zero for more than 3 minutes, it may have hung up. For me this is usually a memory problem.
