Title: A failure, but not an aweful one
Post by: Henry Blewer on August 05, 2011, 03:35:23 AM
This is a project which would not build as I wanted to have it. At least my failures are now looking half way decent...

I like the depth and lighting.  The tex/srf on the main rock structure doesn't quite work somehow, but it's a grand vista nevertheless.

yeah, to me this is no way a failure, just maybe needs a little more work or something more...  :)

Holy Ego boost Badger! :)  Actually I have been enjoying your posts very much. We both have much to learn. I am really only getting started with what the potential this program offers.

I will purchase the I7 2600k next week. That leaves the power supply, ram (16 to start at least 1600mHz), and hard drive. I'll 'borrow' the graphics card from the Dell just to get things going faster. Then buy a worthy one for the new system.

When you've got your I7 you may notice the difference using terragen 2 believe me  you have to change yours...

Good work with nice depth. The lower ground texture is very nice. I'd have left out the cracks though because I find that confuses scale. What are they?

I just looked at more of your work. I particularly like the one with the autumn trees and road because it has a very nice composition and lighting.

I haven't looked at much TG2 work for a while.

The cracks you are seeing is where the terrain slope is high enough for the strata to come into play. I used a distribution shader, slope constraint to limit the strata.

I am glad you have started looking at T2 images again. I am still skimming the surface of this programs potential. More users would help make more solutions to some of the 'grails' we have been pursuing within the community. Some may even get included as new nodes. This would make the program easier to use for everyone.

Uhmm ... A failure? This looks really nice, actually. The thing I don't like is the little rock tower thing.

I try to make the landscape 'behave' in the way I think it should look. On this one, I could not get the displacements on the more vertical sides of the terrain to work.
I liked the image well enough, but it was not the image I was striving for.

Nice terrain and composition.  ;D
