yeah, i noticed in the preview that the model wasn't quite right; does it look alright in TG?

the model works ok in TG2 but the geometry is all messed up.....it looks more like abandoned spacestation

you can use it for far away shots since it doesnt have textures

Go download anim8or (www.anim8or.com).  Open the 3ds object in it, and export it as .obj.

Its a bad model.  I downloaded it and got the same error message.  Find a different space station.

I made this Station (I don't know if this thing look like a station for you) in Blender in less than 5 minutes with the discombobulator script, I know the station is far from perfect but with some tweaking you could made a very detailed one in Blender.

tiger II...  ;D

I got the file too, thanks.

edit...

if this model doesn't look too good in a render you could always substitute it for a Borg sphere.. there are several models of that floating around on the interweb, or someone could try putting the texture from the borg sphere onto this model?...

here are 2 borg spheres

http://www.trekmeshes.ch/meshes/meshesdetails.php?Name=SPHERE (http://www.trekmeshes.ch/meshes/meshesdetails.php?Name=SPHERE)

I think there was also one on www.scifi3d.theforce.net (http://www.scifi3d.theforce.net) if the site loads for you that is.

i think Ed Gidding has done a borg sphere too and released it.. worth a google search.

I had a play with Dan Huling's sphere via PoseRay and there are a couple of problems.

1. I'm assuming you also downloaded the textures  ;)  They show up just fine in PoseRay
2. There are 17 materials defined although there are only 7 textures - bummer
3. The 17th texture is the engine exhaust - real bummer

I tried rearranging Groups to Materials in PoseRay to reduce the number of materials, but the groups didn't correspond to parts of the madel using the same textures - bummer

[attachthumb=#1]
Only "fixed" the hull texture

4. Most of the textures are tiled so I replaced the default shaders with an image map shader (Projection: object UV, size 0.2,0.2, repeat X and Y, Flip X and Y) and a reflective shader.

Trying Maxapyn's sphere... no... it's only in Max

Hey Ben!

This problem I already had with the whitestar project....I tried to find a way to reduce ore group same materials with poseray...but no chance.
I had to change that with blender....and import it as two obj´s.

If there´s no way in poseray to solve that problem with reducing and/or grouping materials and groups....obj with more than 10 textures have to be "redesigned" with other 3d programs....
