test in weak lighting
I have been working on moodier, weaker lighting also. It is proving to be quite difficult. Low res renders take much more time.
One thing I have worked out is using more lights with less strength. Change the color to a medium gray or darker.
I like the light here...a lot!
Superb lighting and nice collection of stones there. ;D
I like this one a lot too! you have much less light in your shot than I do in a file im working on now, but you can see into your dark areas much better than I can in my image >:( Kinda frustrating, but at least I can see now that its fixable. Would love to get a look at your lighting set up to see how your doing it without the shot looking like it has multiple suns. Thanks for sharing.
Thank all for your comments. OH sorry I forgot the rocks are of Seth.

There is only one sun.
sun elevation 1, strength 2.5
enviro light: global illumination strength on surface .06
enviro light: ambient occlusion strength on surface .06, strength in atmosphere 0
haze 1.7
I believe not to have forgotten anything. I go posted a clip of the image soon when I have a little free time.
Sorry for my bad english.
