Title: Multipass rendering?
Post by: Jack on September 14, 2011, 06:31:37 PM
Hey there terrageners :P ;D

Im wondering if Planetside is thinking of implementing a multipass option for rendering?
it would be a great help as tweaking your image in postwork would be a much easier task
and will be also good for mattes (integrating terragen in with FX from 3ds Max etc)

cheers WB

I'd like the Atmosphere to not effect the Alpha. It's nice to have the atmosphere on a cloud layer and/or ground, but I would realy like to be able to have a pure alpha on masking for me to adjust in post for what ever I'm comping with.

You can use the alphas for this, can't you?  More manual, but just use the alphas provided or you can use Photoshop to create your own alphas for another sort of option.

that alpha is extremely basic
Im meaning masks for objects even a mask for foreground/background objects specular highlight masks shadow masks reflection masks watermasks cloud masks and the list goes on,
then pretty much anything could be edited or added in something like NUKE, It would be good for people like me who integrate alot of effects in postwork.

Render layers/elements or what you call "multipass" will be available in the future.

ahem...it's what the 'post' industry calls it really, heh heh heh...
here's a link to a tute for those who aren't sure what we're talking about. It's for Maya but they're all similar in
implementation from what I've seen .  ..   ...

A variety of terms are used ("rendering in layers", "multipass", "render passes", etc.), depending on the software tools used and what part of the industry you're in, but multipass is definitely one of them. :)
