this is based off the same scene from my 2009 "forest temple render"
link:
http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=6822.0
there will be 2 versions: one with the temple, and one without it.
pop. credits -
Orge's mushroom
Mr. Lamppost's bush (model 3a)
Mr Miley's Clovers
nwda grass (2x)
nwda HD Fir tree (1x)
nwda HD Pine tree (2x)
C&C welcome.
This is definitely a render everyone needs to view full size to appreciate it in full!
I love the atmosphere and the canopy is awesome!
Something tells me there will be a second iteration regardless ;)
Cheers,
Frank
of course, there will be new interations soon.

Very nice! It would be great if you could produce rays beaming down overthe illuminated ground cover and mushrooms.
i'm going to try something like that bob, seth suggested something similar to me earlier today, so i will be doing that soon.

Looking forward to it.
the render should be done later today
its going to look a little different, than before, but man, it will look good!
i had to turn off one of the tree populations and and change the spacing of the other two tree populations to get the sun to shine through better.
from yesterday, i've renamed this to the Clover Glade/Forest Temple project.
2 suns, receive shadows from surfaces ON, made the clover pop a little bigger.
render time was 8hrs 30min 55secs
now rendering a larger version with RTA on.
comments & critques welcome
higher resoulution version of the last version of this render:

good job on this iteration
the rays are a little brighter and better quality now
added walli's amphora luminous plant.
started on the temple version of this render.
C&C welcome
the rays are sure interesting, but I really liked the previous version much better. For the price of seeing the rays clearly, now the rest is too dark. That's a shame because the rest (that's now dark) was actually beautiful.
Cheers,
Frank
I kinda like the contrast here.
maybe more transparency on the leaves now :)
did you ever try to add an ambiant occlusion, with very low strength ?
it sometimes has very very good results with vegetation ;)
this interation should be brighter. (for frankb) :)
i did some HDR toning in photoshop with this as well
also added some transparency to the leaves/needles
i have been using Ambient Occlusion lighting for this render
should add a second AO or switch one of my lighting modes to GI?
C&C welcome
well then your last image has only AO and no GI
What Seth meant was to *add* another enviro light, set it to AO and reduce it's strength on surface to say 0.1 or 0.2 and on atmosphere to 0 (I would say).

i thought thats what he meant,
i will do that.
yes Frank's right.
sorry for my bad short explaination about AO :)
just a preview render
i added a second enviro light (AO) as suggested with the recommended settings & turned on the first sun light
also added a localised cloud layer
C&C
different version
i'm happy with the lighting in this one, i used a GI of 2/2 along with 3 light sources
added icegrips dead tree & one of mr milely's clover flowers.
C&C welcome.
I like the last one very much Zaai:)
that last one took over 30 hours on my 2600k !!! @3.4ghz
i'm thinking about giving the dead spruce and the pines a little ivy with the ivy generator, have'nt done that in a while
Nice to see you used the dead spruce model :) Looking great!! If I would say something it would be to reduce the number of dead stems, but it's just my taste. Great work!
looking really good, some ivy round the dead stumps will be cool...
:)
added ivy to the dead spruce trees, new render coming soon.
just submitted a high res version (3600x2500 pixels) on deviantart
i changed the size of the mushrooms and clovers plus there is now ivy on the dead spruce trees.

I love this! It looks like a painting , Zaai.
Ahh, that looks great!!
5*
looks great!
another version, slightly darker, more red sky
with an AA of 8
post work done in gimp/photoshop cs5
http://-zagadka-.deviantart.com/#/d4bvv54
i checked windows task manager and it said tgd.exe was using 10gb of ram, so far, thats as i high as i've seen it go!
night version coming soon
You've made a very good effort here to create a difficult image.
