Been a long time since I've had time to do any renderings for fun, but here was one from a while back where I was messing around with Walli's pine trees. Finally had a chance to render it. It is a little too big to post here so I have uploaded it to my website: http://www.archer-designs.com/zp/albums/digital-art/terragen-2/forest-clearing.jpg (http://www.archer-designs.com/zp/albums/digital-art/terragen-2/forest-clearing.jpg)

Ryan this looks very good to me :)
Just one question...The stones look like they are floating because of the absent(?) shadows. Is it only me ?
It's not only you, Kadri. I like the lighting and scene very much, but the 'floating' stones bother me as well. Perhaps they are legless turtles having a communal jump :D Sorry, Ryan... but I think the stones could be better.
Thanks for the suggestions. I do agree about the stones, I'm not sure they are really floating, but I can certainly try something else instead to see if I can get it to look better.
Lighting looks a bit like some HDR photos.. I prefer more contrasted pictures... but overall is still very good

Hi Ryan,
It's a really great render you have here, but I also agree with the others about the stones.
I think I know how you can fix this tho. What are your GI settings?
Reagrds,
Terje
Thanks Luc and Sjefen, I typically always do very contrasty scenes as that is the way my tastes run as well, so for this one I decided to go the opposite direction and perhaps went too far. I added an extra ambient occlusion environment light that is perhaps lightening the shadows too much. The GI was set at 2/10 which is much higher than I would normally go but I wanted to insure that the shadow areas in the leaves of the close bushes didn't get ugly and "muddy" looking.
most is ok, but shadows needed and some debris under shrubs and trees. They will drop leaves in for real.

But what is your GI blur radius setting?
Lowering this tends to add more details in the shadow areas.

good good :)
The rocks do look a little strange without shadows and seem to be floating slightly...but, as I put away my magnifying glass I see an exceptional image. Keep on man, you do inspirational work!!! Thanks.
Mark
Thank you Markal. Here is an updated version, far more contrasty, a little better foreground, and I think slightly better colours.

to much contrast, sky is no details now, washed away
Right, and now with the perfect lighting of the first one!
Great image, I love it.! The foreground is especially awesome!
I have no problem with the blown out sky, I think that's how it would be on a photo anyway under this kind of lighting conditions.
Cheers,
Frank
It is better now to my taste..

Strange how tastes can differ so much.... If this were a photo I would dismiss it, whereas the first one had great light. Sorry again, Ryan.
I prefer the first one too. Just a little more contrast and some shadow tweaking was enough for me. Yup different tastes :)
Great picture. Imho the lighting should be something in between the first and the last image.
The second render is fantastic - the lighting is superb and the addition of fallen leaves looks great....
