Title: Fake water test (animated)
Post by: bigben on April 13, 2007, 08:59:47 PM
Here's a test of a basic fake water surface with a short animation. Thanks for the ideas Oshyan.

One advantage to this surface at the moment is that it doesn't suffer from the camera distance glitch.

Any tweaks to the fractals gratefully accepted  ;)

Back to rendering my cloud animation...

Neat idea, that would look cool if that was sand  with slightly larger displacment of the fractel. keep it up ben :)

Will

That's pretty nifty, Ben!  It's too bad you get those large scale fractal lines appearing, but I can't think of a way you could get rid of them within the animation.

Cool!  Am I the only one who sees little black specs popping in and out everywhere?  Just wondering if it's an artifact of the render or my playback ..

Yes there are black spots there. Render quality was reduced to keep render times down. This is after all a test a see the effect of the animation.

A better fractal pattern would help when the camera is up close, but at a distance, the fact that you don't have to worry about the depth of the water is a huge plus. I'll work on that later.

Shifting sands... now that would look interesting too. My second cloud test will be trying to simulate mist rising from a lake surface... and this could also be used to simulate wind blown sand with a change of cloud colour.
