Title: NODE DUPLICATION POSSIBLE?
Post by: LeMarchant on October 12, 2011, 04:09:15 PM

Not so important issue here, but it´s been bothering me for a while, so here goes :

I have been fiddling around with the node editor as I want to copy and paste a node, more specifically a custom tree population, to be able to duplicate and move the population to other place of the terrain with other type of foliage.
The problem is, it only copies the main population tab, not the subnodes connected to it, thus I lose all information on the parameters of the subnodes.
I always have to reassemble the subnodes and redo all parameters....

Is there a way to copy/paste the whole node and subnodes at the time to save time and effort?
:)

Nevermind, found a way to duplicate subnodes  ;D

...although still no parameters copied on child nodes....

I don't see a problem actually...

In the node-network select your population-node and press "ctrl + d".
The node will be duplicated, including all the nodes from the internal network (subnodes).
They settings are the exact same, except that inside the population-node itself the "sit on terrain" and "planet" setting are being reset to blank field.
If you set those manually to the same values as the original node then you'll have 2 populations with the exact same settings (and positioning).

From there you can move your duplicate either using the manual coordinate input field or the handles in the 3D-preview.

Cheers,
Martin

By the way, it is not necessary to use caps for your topic-titles...there's a reason why nobody does it...besides that it looks better and less "yelling" it also doesn't matter to people here since they will help you anyway if they can ;)

Go to the internal network of the population so you can see the distribution shader etc - highlight the nodes you want to replicate, and press CTRL-C to copy them.

Go to the internal network of the second population and press CTRL-V to paste them in. Connect them up and you will have the same distribution shader as the first population, with the exact same settings.

This worked for me in the past...
