Title: Kelston Tump
Post by: Jonathan on October 15, 2011, 09:46:27 AM
Thought I'd try something different after all my misty attempts - I have based this on Kelston Tump between Bristol and Bath....a secret place best visited in the late afternoon. First attempt at trying to create a fence post in Xfrog and then using a population with strict height limits to get a sense of a fence around the tump...70% satisfied :)

...and a second image created later in the day...

I like the subject. The detail (2nd render) is really quite nice.

Terragen 2 - it's not just for terrains anymore... but you've shown very well how grouping of objects is possible with this magnificent program!

Thanks all - I will try to do a re-render of the first image but with stronger lighting - also want to play around with the purple flowers to get some more variety :) Any other suggestions welcome.

They're nice and subtle renders. I often put too much in one render, so for a change, this is very calming.

Final render - more light and more variety in the field...

This is a nice image but I think what would really bring it to life is some light shining through the leaves. It all looks a bit flat to me and when I think of English woodland like that I always think of light filtering through it. You should be able to change the translucency in the shader for the leaf. The Xfrog plants I have don't seem to have it set up by default which is a bit of a shame.

Regards,

Jo

Thanks Inkydigit - and to Jo for telling me to make the leaces more translucent - didn't even know it was possible....but it makes a huge difference. The final rendered is here.. http://jj100all4u.deviantart.com/art/Kelston-Tump-264216766 (http://jj100all4u.deviantart.com/art/Kelston-Tump-264216766)
